We had the pleasure of hosting a “Post-Ignite” webinar last Monday with Microsoft MVP Vlad Catrinescu. In the webinar, titled “The Impact of Ignite on the Future of Your Office 365″, Vlad outlined seven major areas where announcements made at the Sept. 25 – 29 Microsoft Ignite Conference will affect SharePoint and Office 365 in the coming months.
The webinar covered the following topics (the time stamp is where that topic starts in the recording). We have both a slide deck available from the webinar.
Hub Sites 4:20
Microsoft’s vision of an out-of-the-box Intranet — brings together team sites and communication sites. Likely available in Q1- Q2 2018.
Connect existing Sites to Office 365 groups. No need for migration of Sites to get Group functionality.
Custom Modern Sites 14:57
The existing Site templates were not being used so much, so Microsoft added the ability to inject custom themes into new sites.
Multi-geo capabilities in OneDrive and SharePoint 23:50
Ability to have data reside within a country while being part of an Office 365 tenancy that spans multiple nations.
SharePoint Migration Tool 29:50
Basic tool from Microsoft that can move document libraries, but which is not likely to impact vendors with more sophisticated migration tools.
New SharePoint Admin Center 35:45
New features and capabilities to better manage SharePoint in Office 365.
SharePoint 2019 38:18
Some hints of what SharePoint 2019 will have, with more details coming out in early 2018.
We hope to provide more blogs that elaborate on the above topics and other Ignite announcements in the coming months. Our goal is keep you informed on what changes are coming to Office 365 and SharePoint and how those can impact, and hopefully enhance, your business usage of these platforms.
